Pearls of Wisdom on the Marathon

My mom on my impending marathon this weekend:

  • “You have 7 hours to finish? That’s good, you can take a 1 hour break, rest, and then if you want you go back out and finish.”
  • “The last 6 miles are all mental? That’s an understatement. The whole damn thing is mental.”
  • “How much is it going to cost me to keep you from running this?”
  • “How many miles is this again? No, wait, I don’t want to know, I’ll just be sick to my stomach.”
  • “Don’t come crying to me when you need hip surgery.”
  • “I really thought when you got a job you’d be over this whole Disney and running thing.”
  • “This is the dumbest idea you’ve ever had, and you’ve had some dumb ideas.”
  • “[plaintive sigh] Here, drink some more water.”
  • “I really thought you’d be over this by now… Are you sure you’re not?”
