Oh Donald, let's go chop down a forest together! Then have pancakes!

Oh Donald, thanks for being the fatter one in this picture.

If you’re looking for a runner who’s going to talk about qualifying for Boston during their first marathon, or how they run marathons three times a week because it’s just one of those things that they naturally do so well, and on top of that you’re looking for someone stylish and gazelle-like in appearance…. We need to part ways.

I’m a card carrying fat chick, because once you’re a big girl you’re always a big girl. In January 2011, my Wii told me I was obese and after I stopped myself from throwing the board out the window and assaulting my television set, I realized I needed to maybe put down the family sized bag of puffed corn and find something else to occupy my free time. A feat not necessarily easy to accomplish in the frigid Minnesota winters where I was plagued by fears of failure in my doctoral program.

Two years later, I live in DC 50 pounds lighter and with my very own hard earned marathon medal. On January 13, 2013 I finished the Walt Disney World Marathon, thanking Mickey for getting me through the miles with what were a lot of smiles.

I’m more Clydesdale than gazelle but you’ll see me running around DC on a regular basis because while I don’t move fast, I move with great regularity. I’m hard to miss: I’m the only one out in a pink and white polka dot skirt and I have a tendency to smile and say hello to other runners as they pass even if they choose to ignore me. And I’ll probably be heading in the general direction of cupcake bakery.

  1. What a great description!! I just starting running a few years ago and I feel like if I ever run a marathon, I want to run the Disney marathon too!! Thanks for inspiring me!! 🙂

  2. I just stumbled across your blog and you are hilarious. Definitely my type of blogger. 😉

WDW Marathon was my first (and so far, only) marathon, too! Man that was miserable. Anyway, I’m glad I found your blog.
